Located close to Cocos and Felicite, Grand Soeur, known in english as Big Sister, is an ideal island hopping destination in the North West Monsoon when its beautiful main beach is a wonderful relaxation and photo spot.
It is advisable to combine a barbecue lunch on Grand Soeur with either snorkelling at Cocos or other nearby some fishing.. After leaving Grand Soeur one can head to the South of La Digue for a Cruise along its exceptionally beautiful beaches or to Curieuse to visit the free-roaming giant tortoises.
Grand Soeur is a private island and as such charges visitors an entrance fee. The main beach is quite exposed and can be dangerous from May to October. During these months the heavy surf erodes this beach making a visit not so worth it. However, this island is accessible throughout the year as it has a landing beach that is protected throughout the year and it provides BBQ facilities to visiting guests. It is open to the public from Monday to Friday and visitors are requested to leave by 1500hrs.
